Goodwill Message from the President-General, Mzough U Tiv Worldwide
I wish on behalf of myself as the President General and the entire Executive Committee of Mdzough U Tiv Worldwide to send to you this special words of support for a successful annual general meeting 2019. Your chapter has always been one of the shining examples of the kind of unity, peace and leadership our forefathers envisaged by establishing Mdzough U Tiv. Let this annual convention like others in the past be a massive success. To this effect, we assure you of our support.
I wish to inform you that the Executive Committee of Mdzough U Tiv Worldwide is ably holding forth in Nigeria. We have formed a very strong coalition of the three main socio-cultural organizations in Benue State, namely the Tiv, Idoma and Igede. This has been a very viable platform for peace and unity within Benue State and for a common goal for seeking our rights from the Federal government who seems to be working hand in hand with Miyetti Allah. We have consistently through the media being a veritable voice of our people in order to protect them from injustice, insecurity and lack of development in Benue state.
In addition, we have continued to maintain a very cordial and helpful relationship within the Middle Belt Forum, Afenifere, South-South Forum and Ohanaeze Ndigbo and many others that believe in human rights.
The Executive Committee of Mdzough U Tiv Worldwide has worked tirelessly in support of people-oriented programs of the Benue State Government led by Dr Samuel Ortom, the Tiv traditional Area Council led by HRM. Prof. James Ortese Iorzua Ayatse and as well as for protecting the law prohibiting open grazing and establishing of Ranches 2017.
Mdzough U Tiv has successfully executed a number of court cases which seek to assuage the rights of the Tiv people as spelt out in the constitution. To mention a few, we partnered with other groups to successfully take the Federal Government to ECOWAS court and succeeded.
Miyetti Allah sued the Benue State government seeking to abolish the open grazing prohibition and Ranches establishment law 2017. We successfully joined in the case and got judgement. In collaboration with our brothers in Nassarawa and Taraba States, we are seeking to establish their rights and citizenship of the states. We are happy to inform MUTUK that one of our sons, Sir. Festus Terver Nyiwo is assisting us to take the Federal Republic of Nigeria together with the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, the Minister of Defence, the Inspector General of Police and the Attorney General of the Federation to court seeking for damages worth 1 trillion naira for the killings and destruction of properties in our land.
The Executive committee of Mdzough U Tiv Worldwide (MUT) is hereby seeking for more collaboration with MUTUK. In particular, we expect that you will establish a section that will assist Tiv students with challenges in the UK to complete their studies successfully.
Most of you are in the U.K because of your educational background. Any efforts to improve the teaching of science subjects in Tiv Land will be invaluable.
Employment has become a major problem in Nigeria. Some of those employed are not sometimes paid regularly. We believe it is about time we start the teaching of skill acquisition and introduction of business entrepreneurship. Unless as per income of our people is improved, poverty will be the order of the day. As you know poverty breeds evil vices.
We are suddenly engulfed with the Jukun/Tiv Crisis again. What looked like a small skirmish in Taraba state has developed into numerous lost of lives and properties? We are having on our doorstep Internally Displaced People, hunger and destitution. Any assistance will not be out of place.
The revival of the teaching of Tiv Language in our schools has been on our burner. We had pressurised the Benue state House of Assembly to pass a bill making the teaching of Tiv language compulsory in our schools. Meanwhile a middle belt association, CONAECDA are doing well by getting NGOs involved in establishing awareness to allow the Tiv Language blossom.
One of the biggest challenges that Mdzough U Tiv Worldwide is experiencing is inadequate financial support. This shouldn’t be so if the branches/chapters and Tiv people become financial members as spelt out in our constitution. Going forward, all chapters of MUT will be encouraged to ensure that all annual dues are paid to ensure a stable financial base, in addition to any other revenue generation activities.
In conclusion, I once again seize this opportunity to thank you all for accepting that my message be delivered. Let God be the chairman of this occasion and lead you a right to produce workable programs for the benefit of the entire Tiv nation.
God bless you.
Chief (Engr). Edward Iorshaa Ujege, MFR, FNSE
