The Mzough U Tiv UK (MUTUK) champions cultural pride, economic growth, and community development for the Tiv in the UK and Nigeria. Founded in 1990, this nonprofit takes its name from "Mzough," meaning "togetherness" in Tiv—a reflection of our commitment to preserving our heritage while embracing life in British society.
The Tiv, a Tivoid ethnic group from Nigeria (West Africa), are renowned for their agricultural expertise, with Benue State proudly known as the "Food Basket of Nigeria." Their deep connection to the land is not just a source of pride but a vital contribution to the nation’s food security.
Beyond agriculture, the Tiv have embraced education, with many excelling in academia and earning advanced degrees. Their pursuit of knowledge reflects a commitment to personal and community growth, showcasing adaptability and success across diverse fields.
As non-governmental, non-partisan, the organisation remains neutral, focusing solely on cultural preservation and community support. This independence allows MUTUK to prioritise it's people, free from political divisions. The goal is to honour and preserve Tiv heritage, ensuring future generations carry forward its rich traditions.
By making a meaningful impact in both Nigeria and the UK, MUTUK embodies the dual identity of Tiv people in the diaspora—honouring their ancestral roots while contributing to their adopted home. This reflects the Tiv philosophy of "ya na Angbian"—"eat and share with your brother"—a testament to the community-driven spirit that defines Tiv culture.
